A wedding at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia is a full weekend on 500 acres, with guests sleeping, eating and celebrating in one place. We love it because the resort has thought through Indian weddings in detail, from the sangeet to the vidaai, so a big family gets one home base and we get one team to work with.
About Lansdowne Resort
Lansdowne Resort is an independently owned, AAA Four-Diamond property overlooking the Potomac River Valley, about 30 miles outside Washington, DC. You may also see it called Lansdowne Resort and Spa. It has three golf courses, the Spa Minérale, pools, tennis and pickleball, plus about 55,000 square feet of meeting space. It is a working resort rather than a single banquet hall, and that is the point. Your guests have somewhere to be between events.
The resort lists five main wedding spaces:
| Space | Up to | The feel |
|---|---|---|
| Lansdowne Ballroom | 500 guests | High ceilings, crystal chandeliers, foyer and outdoor terraces |
| Potomac Terrace | 500 guests | Outdoors, with views of the rolling river valley |
| Outdoor Pavilion | 300 guests | Covered, golf views, ceiling fans |
| Clubhouse Ballroom | 200 guests | Rustic chic, floor-to-ceiling windows, terrace over the course |
| Terrace Ballroom | 130 guests | Natural light, opens onto a terrace |
8 reasons we love working at Lansdowne Resort
1. A two-day Indian wedding is already mapped out
The resort offers a Weekend Wedding Package with a two-day Indian wedding itinerary covering the sangeet (the music and dance night), the ceremony, a post-ceremony luncheon and the dinner reception, each in its own setting. Most venues make you invent that schedule. Starting from a ready outline means we can spend our planning calls on your music, not on where everyone goes next.
2. The staff use the right words
Lansdowne's Indian wedding page talks about every moment "from Baraat to Vidaai," and about Mehndi, Ganesh Puja and Haldi ceremonies before the wedding. For anyone new to these terms, the baraat is the groom's dancing arrival, the vidaai is the bride's emotional farewell, and mehndi and haldi are the henna and turmeric rituals. A venue that knows the order of events knows why a procession cannot start late.
3. Nobody has to drive home after the last song
With 296 rooms, including 28 suites, your guests can stay where the party is. That changes the night. Elders can head upstairs when they are ready and come back in the morning, younger cousins stay on the floor to the last song, and nobody leaves early to beat a long drive. A good reception ends with a full room, and guest rooms upstairs are a big help.

4. The Lansdowne Ballroom can handle the big night
The resort's largest ballroom is listed at 9,525 square feet with 21-foot ceilings, recently renovated, with crystal chandeliers and room for up to 500 guests. That is plenty of height for a stage, a mandap (the wedding canopy) and uplighting that climbs the walls. The foyer and outdoor terraces also give us a second zone for cocktails, so guests can move out while the room is finished.
5. The smaller rooms suit the smaller rituals
Not every event wants a ballroom. The Terrace Ballroom, at up to 130 guests, is bathed in natural light and opens onto a terrace, which suits a mehndi afternoon or a Ganesh Puja, the prayer many families hold before a wedding. A small event like this needs a light touch from us: gentle background music, one or two microphones and no big rig.
6. The Potomac Terrace gives you the view
This outdoor location looks out over the rolling hills of the Potomac River Valley and holds up to 500 guests. It is a lovely place for a cocktail hour or a rehearsal dinner. If you want to dance outside, ask about volume limits and timing, and make sure the plan has an indoor backup before the invitations go out.

7. The Outdoor Pavilion gives you outdoors with a roof
The open-air pavilion covers 3,500 square feet, has ceiling fans and looks out over the golf course. For a Virginia summer sangeet, shade and moving air count for a lot. A roof also protects our equipment and makes a rain forecast far less stressful, which is more than any open lawn can promise. It holds up to 300 guests and is a relaxed choice for a welcome party with a dhol player.
8. Out-of-town guests have an easy trip and plenty to do
The resort is 12 miles from Dulles International Airport, which it says is about 20 minutes away, so relatives flying in from abroad have a simple trip. Then there is golf, the spa and the pools to fill the hours between events. When the uncles have played a round and the aunties have been to the spa, everyone arrives at the reception happy and ready for the dance floor.
How a Lansdowne wedding weekend could flow
Every family is different, and your wedding specialist will shape the details, but here is one version built on the resort's package.
- Day one, afternoon: Haldi or mehndi in the Terrace Ballroom, with soft background music.
- Day one, evening: Sangeet with family performances, a stage and a full DJ setup.
- Day two, morning: Baraat with dhol, then the ceremony indoors or on a terrace, then the post-ceremony luncheon.
- Day two, evening: Cocktails, then the dinner reception in the Lansdowne Ballroom.
Questions to bring to the wedding specialist:
- Where can the baraat start and finish, and are a horse, a dhol and amplified music allowed there?
- What is the indoor plan for each outdoor event?
- How long does a ballroom change take between ceremony and reception?
- Which catering partners cover your cuisine? The resort lists partners for North Indian, South Indian, Gujarati and fusion food.
- What is allowed for a havan or other open flame at the ceremony?
- How does a room block work for a full two-night stay?
What Planet DJ brings to Lansdowne Resort
A weekend here is several different jobs for one team, which is how we like it. One Planet DJ crew can handle soft sound for the morning rituals, ceremony microphones so every guest hears the priest, mobile sound and dhol players for the baraat, and full lighting and a party motivator for the reception. Because one team runs every event, the song you loved at the sangeet can come back at the reception, and your MC already knows how to pronounce every name. It is what we have done for Indian weddings since 1996.
One of our Lansdowne couples put it this way:
"From Day 1, Ateet was very responsive. He always made time for phone calls and responded to our emails right away and is super easygoing, which really put our minds at ease during the stress of wedding planning! We loved how organized they were and had all of our music selected well before the wedding. Our wedding reception was an absolute blast thanks to Planet DJ, and would recommend them for all types of events!"

Frequently asked questions
Does Lansdowne Resort host Indian weddings?
Yes. The resort has a dedicated Indian wedding page and a Weekend Wedding Package with a two-day itinerary for the sangeet, ceremony, post-ceremony luncheon and dinner reception. It also mentions settings for Mehndi, Ganesh Puja and Haldi. Its catering partners cover North Indian, South Indian, Gujarati and fusion cuisine, so ask which fits your family.
How many guests can Lansdowne Resort hold for a wedding?
The resort lists the Lansdowne Ballroom and the outdoor Potomac Terrace at up to 500 guests each. The Outdoor Pavilion holds up to 300, the Clubhouse Ballroom up to 200 and the Terrace Ballroom up to 130. Your actual number depends on the setup, including the stage, the mandap and the size of your dance floor.
How far is Lansdowne Resort from Washington, DC and Dulles Airport?
The resort says it is about 30 miles outside Washington, DC and 12 miles from Dulles International Airport, which it puts about 20 minutes away. It lists Reagan National Airport at about an hour. If you have many relatives flying in, Dulles is the easier airport for them, and it is worth saying so on your wedding website.
Can you get married outdoors at Lansdowne Resort?
Yes. The resort lists the covered, open-air Outdoor Pavilion as ideal for ceremonies, with room for up to 300 guests. The Lansdowne, Clubhouse and Terrace ballrooms are also listed for ceremonies, which gives you indoor choices if the weather turns. Ask your wedding specialist how and when the rain call is made.
