Hyatt Regency Reston Weddings: 6 Things We Love About a Wedding in Reston Town Center

A ballroom set for a reception with blue uplighting on the walls, floating candle centerpieces and a sweetheart stage in the distance

A Hyatt Regency Reston wedding combines a large, recently renovated ballroom with a walkable town center right outside the door. Guests can stay upstairs, then walk to dinner, shops and live events. We love it because the Grand Ballroom has no pillars in the way of sound, light or a packed dance floor.

About Hyatt Regency Reston

Many hotel weddings happen beside a highway. This one happens on a street. The hotel stands at 1800 Presidents Street in the middle of Reston Town Center, with restaurants and shops the hotel describes as "just outside the doors," and with 506 guest rooms and 12 suites overlooking the Town Center or Presidents Park.

The timing is good too. According to the hotel's wedding page, its event space of more than 33,000 square feet was renovated in 2025, along with the guest rooms and public areas. If you last saw this hotel years ago, go look again.

It is a venue we know. Past Planet DJ events listed on our site include Michael and Puloma's celebration here in July 2016.

6 things we love about working at Hyatt Regency Reston

1. A ballroom with nothing in the way

The Grand Ballroom is 12,300 square feet of pillar-free space with 16-foot ceilings, and the hotel lists it for up to 950 guests. Pillars are what entertainment teams worry about most in a ballroom. They block sightlines to the stage, cast shadows across uplighting, and create dead spots in the sound. Without them, we can place speakers for even coverage and every table can see the first dance.

2. Ceiling height that lets the lighting breathe

Sixteen feet is a comfortable height for a reception. Moving lights and projected patterns have room to spread instead of landing in a hot circle above the dance floor, and a monogram on the wall reads clearly from the back tables. In a long room that size, height also helps a sound system feel full without being harsh on the guests sitting closest to it.

3. A second ballroom built for the night before

The Regency Ballroom is 3,600 square feet with a capacity of 280, and it has built-in rear projection, which the hotel suggests for photo montages or custom backdrops. For a sangeet, the night of family dances and performances, that is a useful tool. Your cousins' choreography can have a video backdrop, and a family slideshow does not need a screen rolled into the middle of the room.

4. A terrace next to the Regency Ballroom

The hotel describes an adjoining terrace that flows out of the Regency Ballroom for cocktail hours. Cocktails on a terrace let the room reset behind closed doors, so guests come back in to a dance floor they have not seen yet. Soft acoustic music outside works well in that hour, and it gives your ears a rest before the reception begins. The hotel also mentions seasonal outdoor ceremonies, so ask where those take place.

5. A town center that entertains your guests for you

A wedding weekend has gaps. Between the ceremony and the reception, or the morning after, out-of-town guests want something to do. Here they can walk out to the shops and restaurants, and the hotel notes that the Town Center pavilion hosts live music, seasonal festivals and outdoor movies through the year. Happy, unstressed guests are the easiest crowd we ever play for.

6. Dulles and the Silver Line for the family flying in

The hotel notes easy access to Dulles International Airport, and the Metro Silver Line connects to Washington, D.C. For a multi-day wedding with relatives who want to see the capital between events, that is a real perk. They can spend Friday at the museums and still be back in time for the sangeet.

"Our DJ, Monica, was awesome! She played a great mix of music for my wife and I, and threw in a couple surprises for us as well. Working with Ateet was also great throughout the entire planning process."

Small rooms and small moments

The big ballroom gets the attention, but the smaller rooms are what make a wedding weekend comfortable. The Living Room, at 741 square feet for 70 guests, is the hotel's suggestion for rehearsal dinners and bridal showers. It suits a quiet family gathering, the kind where a cousin brings a harmonium and nobody needs a sound system at all. The Reston Suites, 475 square feet each, can be combined up to 1,400 square feet for 140 people if a mehndi outgrows one room.

Guests who book a Regency Club room get a private lounge on the 15th floor, and there is a skylit saltwater pool for the morning after. None of that changes how we play the reception, but it does change how rested everyone is when they arrive for it.

The published spaces fit together neatly for a multi-day celebration:

A fusion wedding could use the Grand Ballroom's foyer for cocktails, with the ballroom holding both ceremony and reception. If so, ask how long the room needs to change over and where guests will wait. Bring these questions to your event manager too:

  • A Town Center baraat is an appealing idea. Is one possible on hotel property, and do the streets outside need a separate permission? Horse, drum and procession rules vary, so confirm with the venue.
  • What are the rules for a fire ceremony in the ballroom?
  • Is outside Indian catering allowed, or does the hotel work with a specific kitchen?
  • Where do vendors load in, and how early, given the Town Center streets around the building?
  • What is the hotel's music end time?

What Planet DJ brings to this room

A pillar-free ballroom rewards a production plan. Here is what we would talk through with you:

  • Sound: Speakers placed for even coverage across a long room, so the back tables hear the toasts and the front tables can still talk.
  • Lighting: Uplighting around the walls and a dance floor look that takes advantage of the ceiling height.
  • Video moments: Performances and montages planned around the Regency Ballroom's rear projection, if your sangeet is there.
  • Music and MC: A blend of Bollywood, bhangra and American hits for fusion weddings and Indian weddings, with an MC keeping a big room together.

The hotel suits corporate events just as well, thanks to its location in the Dulles Technology Corridor.

If you are looking at Reston for your wedding, send us your date and we will tell you how we would approach the room.

Frequently asked questions

How many guests fit in the Hyatt Regency Reston Grand Ballroom?

The hotel lists the Grand Ballroom at 12,300 square feet with a capacity of 950 guests. That is a maximum figure. Once you add a dance floor, a stage or a buffet, your seated count will be lower. Ask the event team for a diagram based on your own guest count and layout.

Does Hyatt Regency Reston have outdoor wedding space?

The hotel mentions seasonal outdoor ceremonies, and it describes a terrace next to the Regency Ballroom for cocktail hours and gatherings before the reception. Ask which outdoor spot the hotel uses for ceremonies, how many guests it holds, and what the indoor plan is if the weather turns on your date.

Was Hyatt Regency Reston renovated?

Yes. The hotel says it was refreshed in 2025, with redesigned guest rooms, modernized event spaces and revitalized public areas. Its wedding page describes more than 33,000 square feet of event space as renovated that year. Older photos online may not match how the rooms look today, so schedule a walkthrough.

Is Hyatt Regency Reston close to the Metro and Dulles Airport?

The hotel sits in Reston Town Center and says the nearby Metro Silver Line connects directly to Washington, D.C., with easy access to Dulles International Airport. That makes it practical for out-of-town wedding guests. Check the current route from the Metro to the hotel so you can give clear directions on your wedding website.
