A wedding at Herrington on the Bay means a whole weekend on the Chesapeake: a waterfront ceremony, a reception under crystal, and rooms on site for out-of-town family. We love working here because the property gives every part of a celebration its own space, so a long Indian or fusion weekend has room to breathe.
About Herrington on the Bay
Herrington on the Bay is a family-owned waterfront property on the Chesapeake Bay in Anne Arundel County, in the Rose Haven area. Its mailing address reads North Beach, which is why you will see both names. The property has been a destination since 1978 and has hosted celebrations since 1992. Today it runs two main wedding settings: Herring Bay Garden and the Yacht Club, and The Lawn and the Chesapeake Ballroom. The wider property takes in a marina, a private beach, an Olympic-size pool, the Ketch 22 restaurant and a 1.1-mile eco-trail.
What sets it apart for us is that it is a place guests can stay, not only a room they visit for five hours.

8 reasons we love working at Herrington on the Bay
1. The party can stay in one place all weekend
The Inn at Herrington Harbour has 34 guest rooms and 11 suites, and some suites are set aside for bridal parties getting ready together. Herrington also plans welcome events, rehearsal dinners, after-parties and farewell brunches. That is the shape of a South Asian wedding weekend, and it means elders are not stuck on a highway between events.
2. There are two very different sizes of reception
The Yacht Club holds up to 160 guests across its two ballrooms. The Chesapeake Ballroom holds 200 to 230 depending on meal service, or up to 300 with a tent extension. Many Indian guest lists land in that upper range, so it matters that a large family has a real option here.
3. The Yacht Club has two floors to work with
The Harbourview Ballroom sits on the lower level and the Bayview Ballroom on the upper level, with the Harbor Deck as a third space. Crystal sconces, wood floors and a chandelier give the room its character, and a dance floor comes with the venue fee. For an entertainment team, two levels mean a quieter room for cocktails and a louder one for the party. We would plan the sound for each floor separately.
4. The Chesapeake Ballroom is a tent with real height
This space is a 60 by 75 foot tent structure with a crystal chandelier hanging from a 20 foot ceiling, plus a tulle and ribbon liner and fairy lights. Fabric does not hold sound the way a plaster wall does, so speaker placement and volume decide whether dinner conversation survives. The height gives uplighting somewhere to go, and uplighting is included in the pricing here.
5. Ceremony power is close to the lawns
Herrington says power is within 25 feet of the lawns for podiums and musicians. That small detail makes a big difference. A Hindu ceremony runs on the priest's voice, and every guest deserves to hear it over the wind off the water. With power nearby, ceremony sound and microphones can be set without long cable runs across an aisle.
6. The Bay does the work at cocktail hour
The Chesapeake Ballroom has a private waterfront patio with an outdoor fire pit and use of a 180-foot recreational dock. Soft live music suits a setting like that. A bansuri, the bamboo flute, or a sitar can drift across the patio while guests walk out to the water. Ask the venue where musicians can set up.
7. The rain plan is built in
If an outdoor ceremony is rained out, Herrington moves it inside your reception space at no extra cost. On a waterfront wedding date that matters. Because the ceremony could land in the room where dinner is set, we plan sound for both versions early, and you should ask how a mandap, the wedding canopy, would move indoors and how long the room reset takes.

8. The night can end with fireworks
Herrington says it can help create a firework show. A finale like that needs a countdown, a cue and a last song to match, which is the job of your MC and DJ. Ask early about permits, timing and the location.
Planning your wedding at Herrington
Here is one way a three-event weekend could flow. Treat it as a starting point for your Event Specialist, not a fixed plan.
| Event | Could suit | Ask about |
|---|---|---|
| Mehndi, the henna gathering | A smaller room or an afternoon garden setting | Which spaces are free and what the outdoor music rules are |
| Sangeet, the music and dance night | Yacht Club, with the party upstairs or down | Dance floor size and end time |
| Ceremony and reception | The Lawn and the Chesapeake Ballroom | Rain plan, air conditioning, room reset |
Questions worth asking your coordinator before you sign:
- Which address is ours? Herrington's own pages use 7151 Lake Shore Drive, but some outside listings show the Chesapeake Ballroom and Lawn elsewhere. Get the exact GPS address for your site, and ask how far it is from the Inn.
- Can your caterer do our menu? Herrington is the exclusive food and beverage provider, and only your wedding cake can come from outside. If you want a full Indian menu, raise this first.
- What lighting can outside vendors bring? Additional rentals for the Chesapeake Ballroom, including lighting packages, come only through Herrington. Ask what is allowed before planning a look.
- Is air conditioning included? It is listed as an additional rental for the Chesapeake Ballroom, so ask about it for a summer date.
- Can we have a baraat? The baraat, the groom's dancing procession, needs an approved route. Ask about the start point, the dhol drum, amplified sound and any horse. Our baraat guide lists what to confirm.
- Is a ceremony coordinator included? Herrington provides a Reception Coordinator, but a ceremony coordinator is an added item.

What Planet DJ brings to Herrington
Planet DJ Productions has played Indian, South Asian and fusion weddings around the DC area since 1996, and a Herrington weekend uses most of what we do. That means a DJ and sound plan for each event, ceremony microphones the priest can trust on a breezy lawn, and an MC who keeps a long timeline moving and calls the fireworks if you have them. We can add a dhol player for the baraat and live musicians for the patio, subject to the venue's rules.
If your weekend is headed for the Bay, send us your date and we will talk it through.
Frequently asked questions
How many guests can Herrington on the Bay hold?
The Yacht Club's Harbourview Ballroom takes 60 to 100 guests and its Bayview Ballroom takes 160. The Chesapeake Ballroom holds 200 to 230 depending on meal service, and up to 300 with a tent extension. Herrington's Lawn page mentions up to 350 across the Lawn and Ballroom, so confirm your own number with an Event Specialist.
Is Herrington on the Bay all inclusive?
Herrington describes its pricing as all-inclusive for the venue, food and beverage, service staff, chairs, tables and linens. It holds the liquor license and supplies all food, so outside alcohol is not allowed. You may bring your own flowers, centerpieces and wedding cake. Entertainment is a separate choice, so ask what your package covers.
Where do guests stay for a Herrington wedding?
The Inn at Herrington Harbour has 34 guest rooms and 11 suites, with Bay views, a private beach and an Olympic-size pool. Some rooms have hot tubs on a private patio in spring and fall. Larger parties can also ask about Honey's Farmhouse in Lothian, about 9 miles away, which sleeps up to 13.
Is Herrington on the Bay in Rose Haven or North Beach?
You will see both. Herrington's official address is 7151 Lake Shore Drive, North Beach, MD 20714, while directories often list the Inn at Herrington Harbour under Rose Haven. It is the same stretch of Chesapeake shore, near Annapolis and Washington, DC. For invitations, use the exact GPS address the venue gives you for your site.
