3 Tips When Renting a Dance Floor for your Virginia/Maryland Wedding

As you prepare for your upcoming wedding (or any special event, for that matter), you’ll surely discover how many things you have to rent to create the perfect atmosphere. Most people are prepared to rent (or hire) such things as tables and chairs, a caterer, a photographer, lighting and music.

However, have you ever considered your potential need for renting a dance floor?

Why you might need to rent a dance floor

There are some obvious times when you might need to rent a dance floor. For example, do you plan to have an outdoor wedding? Perhaps something on the beach or in a field? In those instances, you’ll certainly need to rent a dance floor.

However, even if you rent out a hall, there’s still a very good chance you’ll want to at least consider renting a dance floor to help make your event magical. That’s because these days, event flooring can compliment your décor and leave your guests breathless.

Here are 3 tips to help you rent the perfect dance floor for your DC-area wedding or special event – Let’s talk event logistics

No matter how fancy your flooring might be, in the end it serves a very functional purpose. That’s why, at the onset of your wedding floor rental quest, you need to factor in:

     – The number of guests you expect to have
     – The size of the hall where your event will take place

More than anything else, knowing the answers to these components will help you determine how much flooring you’ll need. Flooring typically comes in squared sections, so figure out how many sections you need to rent.

We’d say that a wedding with roughly 100-150 guests will likely need flooring that covers 24’x24’. The rule of thumb we subscribe to is that at least 50% of your guests will be dancing at any given time. You don’t want your floor to be too large (it’ll look empty) or too small (it’ll be uncomfortable).

However, while we’re at it, it’s worth talking to your hall to see if they have any limitations on types of flooring that can be added in.

When renting flooring for your event, money matters

As we’ll discuss shortly, you have various options when it comes to renting your dance floor. The styles you have to choose from each come at a different cost. Types of dance floors can include wood, oak, planks, marble, vinyl, or even lighted components. Each section can range from $3 to $35 – or even more.

When you know how big your dance floor needs to be, you can then request specific quotes from wedding rental companies on your flooring options.

We encourage you, when asking for these quotes, to find out what’s included in the price. We believe that your quotes should include floor delivery, installation, breakdown, and pickup services.

Types of flooring to choose from

Here’s where things get really exciting. What type of dance floor do you need? Often times, the answer to this question will be based on your event’s overall look and feel. That’s why it’s ideal that you work closely with your wedding event planner to ensure consistency.

Some of the most popular flooring options include:

     – Traditional, elegant white dance floor – This is among our most popular options. Traditional dance floors tend to be well received by guests of all ages and backgrounds.

     – Modern, hightech flooring – This could include LEDs to spice up your dancing. In fact, we could even install special lighting and monograms to help liven up your dance floor.

     – Hybrid FUSION solution – Lately, our hybrid FUSION dance floors are becoming more and more popular. That’s because our FUSION flooring is the best of both worlds: traditional and modern. More specifically, the FUSION dance floor is a see-through white acrylic dance floor with sparkles and a holographic effect built into it.

Creating Your Wedding Day Emergency Kit

Whether you’re at home, at the office, in school, or at the gym, chances are somewhere nearby there’s an emergency kit. While no one expects an emergency to happen, many of us like knowing we’re prepared just in case the unexpected occurs.

But that boy-scout approach to always being prepared seems to fall to the wayside when it comes to one of the biggest days of our lives – our wedding day.

If you’re planning – or have planned a wedding – here’s a question for you: have you ever considered what to pack in your wedding day emergency survival kit?

Creating an emergency kit made for your wedding day

The typical emergency survival kit has such things as gauze, bandages, aspirin, water, food supplements, flashlights and the like. While you’re wedding day emergency kit can (and perhaps should) include these items, your special day requires you to consider some “special” items.

For example, you will want some aspirin or pain reliever, as well as some skin-toned Band-Aids (thus, just like your normal emergency kit). But would your normal emergency kit include straws?

Probably not, but your wedding day kit should because, well, when you want to stay hydrated (don’t forget to pack your bottles of water) you don’t want to smear your lipstick, do you?

Straws will save the day.

Your wedding day survival kit should also include a sewing kit, backup backings for your earrings, and smelling salts. Yes, we said smelling salts. Trust us, in our experience organizing countless weddings throughout the Washington D.C. area, we’ve seen it all, including people passing out from the stress, excitement, or exhaustion.

Here are a few other not-so-normal items you may want to include in your wedding day emergency kit

    – Stain remover pen: For spills and would-be stains on the dresses
    – White chalk: If something gets on the wedding dress, you can usually mask the stain with chalk
    – Super Glue: For fixing shoes, nails, jewelry, head pieces, and more
    – Baby powder: Moisture-absorbing baby powder will help the bride feel fresh as a daisy
    – Extra undergarments: For when baby powder just doesn’t cut it
    – Q-tips & makeup remover
    – Blotting papers: For when your makeup runs
    – Lighter: For sealing the edge of frayed ribbons
    – Extension cord and phone charger(s): Because we live in a connected world
